How to change your air filter. It takes about five minutes. Find it and read the size. Your filter sits behind a return grille or at the air handler. The size is printed on the edge of the frame. Turn the system off, then swap. Turn the thermostat off, open the grille and slide the old filter out. Arrow toward the unit. Slide the new filter in with the airflow arrow pointing toward the unit, and make sure there’s no gap around it. MERV 13, on schedule. EPA recommends MERV 13 or higher if your system allows. Check it monthly and change 1-inch filters every 1 to 3 months. For free maintenance reminders, or to book a free visit, go to cleanairexperts.org.
