How to check your A C drain line. A two-minute summer check that prevents leaks. Find the drain pan. Under the indoor coil, a drain pan collects the water your AC pulls out of the air. A pipe carries it outside or to a drain. Look for standing water. With the AC running, look in the pan. Standing water, a musty smell or a tripped float switch means the line is starting to clog. Check the outside end. Outside, the line should drip steadily on hot afternoons. No drip at all on a humid day is a warning sign. Flushed every spring. We flush the line during a spring check-up. If you see water on a ceiling under the attic unit, turn the system off and call us. For free maintenance reminders, or to book a free visit, go to cleanairexperts.org.
